Beer - Single

A Los Angeles duo with a penchant for old-school party raps, rowdy breakbeats, and funkdafied samples, People Under the Stairs (Thes One and Double K) have been putting out top-quality, true-school hip-hop since the late ‘90s. Though not as overtly retro as peers like Jurassic 5 and Ugly Duckling, their music rejects preset keyboard beats and fraudulent thug boasting, instead focusing on having fun, getting their party on, digging for old records, and showing love to their Cali homeland. Originally included on their seventh album Carried Away, "Beer" is just what the title suggests, a tribute set to an '80s-style beats and slick cuts that would sound right at home on Licensed To Ill. The "Colt 45 Mix" adds a glutinous bassline to the fun, while the sublimely mellow, clap-laden "Down In L.A." could be a sequel to Cube's "It Was a Good Day," with shout-outs to barbeques, the barber shop, and the Lakers.
