Extra Tracks

Perhaps these EPs that Rouse puts out are for his die hard fans, but there are tracks in them that are as good as his albums. I'm amazed sometimes that the tracks were not chosen. This outing, however, has early demos of two very goods songs, "Lemon Tree" and "Easy Street." Lemon Tree is on El Turista and "Easy Streets" final version can be heard on the EP Valencia. The two songs I think most people would want are the ones here that don't appear elsewhere. I love the opening to "123" even though I have heard it a million times before from others, but Rouse playfully makes that his title. The song is typical of his ability to tell a good story in a 3 minute song. "City Blues" has this nice country groove and melody. Finally, he ends with a Mother Love Bone cover "Chloe Dancer." Another cover to search for that are from this period but not on this EP are "I Woke Up The Mayflower" by Mark Mulcahy. Rouse also collaborated with Styrofoam (Arne Van Petegen) on "Lil White Boy", and I consider that a must have track (It's on a Styrofoam LP called "A Thousand Words").
