Led by identical twin sisters Lee and Paula Bowman, Jetty Road had been playing together for a decade and a half when they cut their sixth studio album, 2019’s Because We Can. You can hear that well-earned confidence in every aspect of the Melbourne band’s open-hearted modern country. The influence of each member’s recently expanded family unit also informs these heartfelt songs in key ways. The opening title track is all about finding solidarity in others, blending indie-friendly production with rustic instrumentation to echo the buzzing empowerment of fellow Aussie hitmakers Sheppard’s 2014 smash “Geronimo.” Similar in spirit is the ballad “This Is Us,” which underscores how love binds people together, and the childhood-inspired closer “Wild and Free,” which balances rootsy twang and nostalgic lyrics with a subtle electronic pulse.
