A Kina-fied New Direction

I’ll be honest, Fire Escape was an album that sunk into some deep emotions, and it was utterly complex, especially for a debut album. In contrast, these “love songs” amount to an obvious surplus of Kina’s effect on him as an artist - which is not necessarily a bad thing. However, Epstein is just too skilled with acoustics and telling a story with his album with highs and lows to produce a duet-album ALL about love. Fire Escape carried us from a love conflict to love loss to regret to finding new love again. That story telling just isn’t here, nothing about where they met, or the struggles they faced, or even the greatest day of their lives: Kina wrote a great song about their marriage (My Dear). Jesse deserves to be happy as a person and do what he wants as an artist. I simply hope he doesn’t lose his touch with himself as he is immersed into touring with Kina Grannis and her bubbly, soothing songs.

I loved the first album, and was expecting something similar, it's changed a little too much
