11 Songs, 45 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

On her ninth album, Sheryl Crow returns to slick pop-rock, pairing sing-along-ready choruses with her sly soprano and crisp arrangements. The shuffling “Long Way Back” is a motivational anthem for the world-weary; the flirtatious “Roller Skate” revives the breezy vibes of Crow’s earliest hits and adds roller-rink sauciness. Crow’s high-caliber band provide musical flourishes—a soft-focus harmonica on the blues-tinged “Alone in the Dark,” a juicy guitar solo from the virtuosic Gary Clark Jr. on the soulful “Halfway There”—to add potency to her hooks.

Great album!

Throwback to the first few albums of hers in the 90's. Excellent!

Horrible

I remember Sheryl's first to LP's and being blown away by the song structure.

The first LP did not have on bad song on it.

The "Halfway there" song does not connect in rhythm or soul or melody. There is no tune here... it's like freestyle jazz.

This is a a song only Prince could get away with.

I miss Sheryl Crow's quality music. I am a HUGE fan but the last albums have been souless and empty.

Alanis has had the same problem

Annie Lennos same.

Chrissie Hynde had a solo that was the same but WOW did she comeback with a new Pretenders lp that strived to be authentic to her "style" which is unique.

If you want some good rock I sugges The Pretenders new LP

Bland

They keep saying how this album is a return to her 90's form (which I loved her first four albums actually, 1994-2002). Was excited for that...but no. it's a lie, it's nothing like her 90's and early 00's output. More like Wildflowers or Detours, which I bought but where she was losing and ultimately lost me. It's all just bland and forgetable. Time to drag out TNMC and the Self Titled and give them a spin yet again.

Edit: Having heard snippets of the entire album, I will say Strangers Again sounds good. But the rest is still bland.
