On Thought It Was Over, artist and dancer Toss fuses elements of hip-hop and kwaito while gliding over mellow amapiano instrumentation provided by Felo Le Tee, Herc Cut The Lights, and Tyler ICU. With the theme of self-actualization driving the storytelling on this four-track EP, Toss uses his signature rasp to describe coming of age and nurturing what matters most to him, figuratively and romantically (“My Boo”). The Blxckie-assisted “Nikhumbulekile” pays tribute to Toss’ idol Brown Dash as well as Riky Rick, Mpura, Killer Kau, and DJ Citi Lyts, while the metaphoric “Drip” addresses putting your best foot forward, and “Bayeke” is a reminder to block out any distractions.
