EDITORS’ NOTES

If the feeling of pure love could be expressed through music, we think it would sound something like the tightly woven harmonies of The Civil Wars' Joy Williams and John Paul White on Barton Hollow. Singing together in tandem on virtually every line, the pair celebrate the traditions of American roots music as much as they do the experience of falling in and out of love, especially on the smoky, evocative "Poison & Wine" and the achingly poignant "Falling."

Nothing like the new album

There is something pure and magical hidden within lines, the melodies and lyrics. An honest album, not commercialized nor corrupted. Music that was made and happened to be recorded.. I don't know if it makes sense, but whatever

Life changing

If it wasn't for NPR I would have never discovered this band. I don't understand why radio stations and record companies insist on pushing crappy music on people while bands like the civil wars get no air play. John Paul and joy have the most beautiful voices I have ever heard it has truly changed my life. I am so happy I found you two!!
