15 Songs, 1 Hour 36 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Chronicling the 2003 tour in support of Mayer's second album, Heavier Things, the tracks on As/Is are from concerts in Pennsylvania and Connecticut and feature Mayer's touring band of the era. Mayer's second live outing, and fourth overall when it was released in 2004, As/Is features gentle versions of the mega-star's well-crafted makeout songs, with hits "Your Body Is a Wonderland" and "Clarity" coming deep in the set. Mayer shows off his startlingly able guitar style, a cross-section of the precision of B.B. King with an SRV-level of shred power on the jumping "Blues Intro." The lights go back down right away, however, as Mayer then glides smoothly into the key song of the evening, "Come Back to Bed," with its explosive, practically psychedelic solo and spoken-word section. Characteristically, the guitarist and songwriter's charming and funny between-song banter is another major draw.
