On their fourth album, Austria’s Harakiri for the Sky blend melodic black metal with soaring post-rock for a seriously triumphant listen. As with their past releases, lengthy compositions prevail: sprawling openers “Fire, Walk with Me” and “The Graves We’ve Dug” set the atmospheric tone with skyscraping guitars, militaristic blast passages, and stirring piano outros. Meanwhile, vocalist J.J. howls toward the heavens after some acoustic placidity on “Heroin Waltz” and is joined by a female singer on an electrifying cover of Graveyard Lovers’ “Manifesto.”
