EDITORS’ NOTES

Move over, Adele! The biggest set of pipes in the biz arrives to put her spin on a handful of "diva classics," and what a spin it is. You might expect Franklin to knock "I Will Survive" out of the park, but vamping over a remix of Destiny's Child's "Survivor" in the middle? Or how about the Andre Benjamin–produced "Nothing Compares 2 U" rendered as swinging jazz? Alicia Keys' "No One" gets the reggae treatment, and "I'm Every Woman" is spliced with a bumping version of "Respect." And then there's Adele's "Rolling in the Deep"—Aretha slays it, of course, then blends it with "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" just to keep us on our toes.

Hmmm...

It’s an interesting concept, but I’d much rather a compilation of these singers covering Aretha’s songs instead. Adele on Natural Woman, Gladys Knight on Think, Chaka Khan on Rock Steady….

Not Aretha’s Fault

The person who produced her vocals did a terrible job. They used auto-tune (which she clearly doesn’t need) and they are over compressed and pocketed. They took the soul out of her vocals. This isn’t Aretha’s fault. It’s the producer.

Amazing!

Aretha is absolutely amazing! Her voice is flawless. She is and will always be the Queen of Soul. Can't wait to hear the entire album.
