Why are harp and voice so rarely heard together? This album is a vividly imaginative showcase for that magical combination. Arden’s music is harmonically and melodically rich, and treads a fine line between folk and contemporary, while her ethereal voice soars above the glittering, iridescent sound of her harp. What lends this album its added dimension, however, are Faroese electronic artist Janus Rasmussen’s effects: bass rumblings, layers, reverb, and drum rhythms that bring washes of color and textural depth to each song. The production values are high, too—listen to the precision of the beautiful “If You Care,” which has all the hallmarks of a pop classic, or the sweeping “Birds,” which builds to an incredible climax. The haunting instrumental “Like a Wing” brings Arden to a peaceful close.
