Apple Music Sessions

Lindsay Ell’s voice can break your heart and make it soar on this Apple Music Session, which she opens with a new take on her own track, “pain tolerance,” a tale of resilience in the face of toxic relationships. “I spent so much time thinking that having a high pain tolerance was something I should be proud of, a badge of honor even,” she tells Apple Music. “This song was a turning point for me. Writing it made me realize that tolerating pain doesn’t make you strong. I hope that when people hear it they are reminded that it’s not their responsibility to carry the weight of anyone else’s emotional baggage, but instead to listen to themselves and make decisions from there.” The Calgary-born singer-songwriter is no stranger to stadium gigs, having toured in Shania Twain’s band, but she lets her voice take center stage in a reimagining of Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood (Taylor’s Version).” “When this song came out, it was so refreshing to me because it felt like Taylor was publicly standing up for herself,” she says. “She funneled all of her anger and hurt into a song and it became an anthem for anyone who has been crossed by someone they thought was a friend. I give you ‘Bad Blood (Lindsay’s Version).’ My reimagined version pays homage to how I think I would have initially felt in the same situation—sad that someone I loved turned out to be different from who I thought they were.” Press play to hear Ell’s raw but soothing session now.
