“‘Easy’ and ‘She’s My Religion’ are two of my favorites to play acoustically,” Pale Waves frontwoman Heather Baron-Gracie tells Apple Music. “Part of me actually prefers the acoustic versions because the songs themselves can really shine through, which I adore.” It’s our pleasure, then, to have provided the Manchester four-piece with the opportunity to strip back two standouts from 2021’s blistering Who Am I?—plus a thrilling cover of “Torn,” made famous by Natalie Imbruglia. “I recorded in Nashville,” Baron-Gracie says. “It’s a place I’m really drawn to because of my love for country music. I recorded solo, with Hugo [Silvani, the band’s guitarist] sending me lead guitar parts from London. Thank God for technology!” Leaning into an acoustic sound for this Home Session has been part of a realization for Baron-Gracie. “During 2020 and the first part of 2021 I’ve realized that I enjoy writing on my acoustic guitar more than anything,” she says. “I’ve written in a variety of ways before—writing to a laptop or in a band environment—but I think the best songs happen when it’s just me and my guitar.”
