10 Songs, 35 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

When the going gets tough, the professionals turn pop. Or at least that’s what the Canadian experimental/electronic pop duo Purity Ring have done on their second album, Another Eternity. Their debut, Shrines, relied on the adventurous forays that Megan James and Corin Roddick pulled off with few expectations upon them; they mostly wrote collaborated on the songs online while in different locales. For Another Eternity, working face to face gave them a palpable give-and-take that ensured tracks like “Begin Again,” “Stranger Than Earth,” and “Bodyache” achieved a human touch beyond electronics without losing the icy textures necessary to create their ethereal vibe.

Magik to my ears and soul.

The two singles that are out now are electronic mystical eargasms. Although the new tracks are more pop inspired, they still contain the dark and mysterious style that they do so well at, which is a nice transition into a new album. I'm sure they want a more energized audience when performing live, so this change comes at no surprise. Their first album was perfection, and I believe the the second will be no different. Megan and Corin are musical geniuses. Their lyrics are just mind blowing and the beats are so enchanting- it's scary how good they are.

Incredible

I first heard the song "Fineshrine" at the beginning of my freshamn year (two years ago), and I fell in love with Purity Ring. The content they have released from "Another Eternity" ("Push Pull" and "Begin Again") is marvelous. I can not wait to download the whole album March 3rd.
