Following the murder of founding member Mr. Cee in 1996, Black C was forced to carry the RBL Posse alone. Fortunately, a new crop of Bay Area producers were ready to step in on An Eye for an Eye, which contains contributions from Cellski, Rick Rock, and the Enhancer. Perhaps as a response to Cee’s death, the mood here is more muted and pensive than on albums past. “The Individual,” “An Eye for an Eye,” and “Concrete Jungle” are as hushed as they are menacing. The throwback funk of early RBL is revived only in the outstanding closer, “Til’ the End.”
