I bought this on a whim after seeing a bunch of jazz cd’s on sale for $5.99. I’m not the type to take chances on music I’m not familiar with, I’m mostly a traditional old school jazz fan and don’t venture out much more than my favorites. I listened to some samples of their songs and was blown away! Their musicianship is top notch, mixing many traditional and modern jazz styles. (I love the bass player!) Best of all, in my opinion, is the female singer. Her voice is silky, sexy, funky and she can really swing. Given her talent, I bet she can sing anything. I’m particularly partial to female jazz singers and I’m so impressed that I will probably buy more of this band’s music, mostly influenced by her, but as I mentioned before, their music is wonderful and I love their covers of other artists. I usually don’t always unless they are outstanding. Good choice I think... check it out.

Stingy in the instrumental department but still swinging softly like an after show jam session, Tok Tok has a knack on this album of personalizing familiar and sometimes backside tunes. In songs like "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" they have just enough clashing intervals between the sax and bass to keep the jazz style of note conflict there preventing it from getting too comfortable. The treatment of Stevie Wonder's "I Wish" is particularly satisfying and most people who've heard it don't realize it's a beatbox in the rhythm section until the solo section. Good stuff.
