Allegri: Miserere; Palestrina: Missa Papae Marcelli; Mundy: Vox Patris caelestis (Remastered)

The first recording The Tallis Scholars made, all the way back in 1980, was of Allegri’s heavenly Miserere, one of the greatest choral works to have emerged from the Sistine Chapel. Here to celebrate its 40th anniversary is that very recording, made in Merton College Chapel in Oxford, and still sounding remarkably fresh, with none of its power diminished all these decades later. The singers may have come and gone down the years, but that unmistakeable style we associate with The Tallis Scholars was already established here. The coupled works by Mundy and Palestrina are just as beautifully brought to life.
