Beloved Mexican artist Julieta Venegas' songs always look deep into the soul, but this album goes a step further. The haunting "Buenas Nochas Desolation" finds the singer healing from heartbreak; "Porvenir," with her sighing voice caressed by piano and strings, is in the thick of it. But the album's most heartbreaking song is the powerful "Explosion," addressing the unsolved murders of 43 college students in late 2014. Set to a deceptively catchy tune, it registers empathy with more than a little outrage between the lines.
