Editors’ Notes Under the pseudonym King Krule, Archy Marshall offered spiky jazz guitar and deep, slurred vocals. On his first album under his own name, he draws on trip-hop and ’90s hip-hop, grafting crackling beats onto smeared backing tracks. “I fly solo,” he declares in raspy tones over the spooked synths of “Buffed Sky.” On the wistful “Ammi Ammi,” he sings about a girl playing him Barry White all night, but it’s more about escaping into a noir-ish world through headphones than heading to the bedroom.
