A Little Faster

Toting a darker edge than many of their contemporaries, There for Tomorrow’s second studio full-length is a guitar-heavy affair produced by James Paul Wisner (Dashboard Confessional, Underoath) and David Bendeth (All Time Low, Paramore, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus) that sounds tailor-made to storm stages of the Vans Warped Tour. “The Remedy” tears the top off with ascending emo-based melodies and tightly winding guitars, but it’s the following title track that sets the tone by rocking out with mammoth-sized riffs, palm-muted guitar pedaling in the verses, and a blazing chorus that throws Velcro catchy punches. “Backbone” is another standout with shifting dynamics and unpredictably herky-jerky staccato rhythms that sound slightly influenced by ‘80s post- punk angularity. Singer Maika Maile contrasts his flowing whisper-textured vocals with the kind of scathing lyrics that bite at the subject like a vicious slam-book entry. Even when playing a token power ballad like the moody “Just In Time,” the band makes sure to trim the tune with brooding soundscapes and dark atmospheric ambiance.
