1978 A&M Album

"So Good, So Right" was a minor hit for Brenda in 1978, this cd is a re-release of the album "Brenda Russell" with the single edit of "Piano In The Dark" from 1988's "Get Here" as a bonus track. For a budget re-release, Universal did a great job with the remastering of this cd. Brenda sounds so young here, her voice allowed to go sharp in some places and those notes only make the songs that more emotional. One of my favorite tracks is "In The Thick Of It," that song should have been a hit and "If Only For One Night" that originated here is a bit more emotional that Luther Vandross' version, although Luther sang the Hell out of this song. Brenda released more albums on A&M before taking off a few years and returning in 1988 for "Get Here." She followed up "Get Here" in 1990 with the superb "Kiss Me With The Wind" and that cd promptly went out of print. Brenda resurfaced on A&M in 1993 with "Greatest Hits" a collection that culled titles from her 1978, 1988, and 1990 efforts. The bulk of her 80's work went ignored until the "Ultimate Collection." Brenda is so underrated.

Whennif ,

A gem that is one of the most respected and popular albums in the industry.

Brenda Russell's debut album remains the pinnacle album of her highly respected career. Much of the songwriting came while Brenda was coming off a hard divorce from songwriter Brian Russell. Her ex husband left her and married actress Cheryl Ladd. Ladd released the single, Think it over, which charted at # 38 in 1978. Brenda's album was released in 1979 and produced by Andre Fisher who went on to marry Natalie Cole. The album really did not get is just due until Luther Vandross released, If only for one night. I can tell you that the album is a favorite of many singers and songwriters in the industry. It is also one of my favorites.
