EDITORS’ NOTES

After a storm cloud of internet intrigue and a mystery-stoking EP, this six-piece—effectively a reconfigured version of Ben Howard’s touring band—emerge from the haze with a beguilingly wild debut. Featuring Howard but conceived, and essentially fronted, by his longtime guitarist Mickey Smith, it’s a widescreen, folk-infused epic that affectingly evokes recording sessions on the rugged coast of West Cornwall. “Dust in the Wind” riffs on weather-worn Americana, and “Behold” packs an almost spiritual slow-burn.
