Following their 2016 album of popular and lesser-known pieces, the young French violin and cello duo return with that same intriguing mix, performed with equal passion and grace. Bringing neglected works to the forefront is a fine hook—Rachmaninoff’s unfamiliar Trio élégiaque, placed between Bach’s Air on a G String and Brahms’ Lullaby, feels invitingly familiar, as if by osmosis. And Corigliano’s music from the movie The Red Violin, previously made famous by Joshua Bell, is stunningly rendered—a beautiful oasis. Its segue into Marcello’s adagio is nothing short of magical.
