The Who's record label decided to target the casual-fan market with a series of greatest-hits collections that served up quick summaries of the artist at hand. At just 10 tracks, 20th Century Masters obviously can't do justice to a band with as many classic tunes as The Who. Still, there's not much to complain about with what's here. "Squeeze Box" and "Join Together" feel a bit slight compared to the omissions of "The Kids Are Alright" and "Baba O'Riley" ("Teenage Wasteland"). But any album stacked with "My Generation," "I Can See for Miles," "Pinball Wizard," "Behind Blue Eyes," and "Won't Get Fooled Again" is at an unfair advantage over the competition.
