The Low Light Sessions

The Low Light Sessions

Like an old family photo album, country singer Mitchell Tenpenny’s The Low Light Sessions is revealing, intimate, and full of heart. The husky-voiced Nashville native reached into his vault to dig up most of these numbers, producing a snapshot of his life over a half-decade spanning the late 2010s into the early 2020s. The tunes are tender and thoughtful, with Tenpenny unpacking the heartbreak of unrequited love through the sweeping country-pop of “Horseshoes and Hand Grenades,” and paying tribute to the woman who brought him into this world over the gently fingerpicked acoustic guitar and banjo of “Mama Raised the Hell Out of Me.” And with the devotional, down-home soul of “The Way You Are,” he brings us up to speed, testifying to his love for his partner, fellow country singer Meghan Patrick.
