Lily Rose found breakout success with “Villain,” a soulful, brooding breakup ballad that first gained traction on TikTok. On her debut project Stronger Than I Am, the country up-and-comer shows that, viral hit or not, she’s no one-trick pony. The title track takes a popular country trope—drowning your heartbreak in booze—and makes it a vulnerable exploration of the strength it takes to love another person. “I Don’t Smoke” is a slow-burn banger with a hip-hop bent, reminiscent of Sam Hunt’s Montevallo. Appropriately, a Sam Hunt-penned track appears on the EP in “Remind Me of You,” in which Rose, one of only a handful of out queer artists in contemporary country music, laments an ex-love she just can’t get over, refreshingly using female pronouns when she sings, “She don’t remind me of you.”
