Teenage Heartbreak

Teenage Heartbreak

Prior to the release of his high-octane debut album, LILHUDDY (real name Cole Chase Hudson) made a career for himself lip-syncing on TikTok. The symbolism is obvious: Now, at 19, he’s turned that URL celebrity into an IRL music career—actually singing, with a band, on a spitfire LP. Bolstered by a major-label record deal, the support of blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, and a natural tenor not unlike a young Alex Gaskarth from All Time Low, Teenage Heartbreak is 11 tracks of pure pop-punk revivalism. From the glossy, soaring “21st Century Vampire” to the 5 Seconds of Summer-style ballad “America’s Sweetheart” to “Don’t Freak Out,” a collab with Barker, Gen Z rapper iann dior, and All-American Rejects frontman Tyson Ritter, the album is energetic, youthful, despondent, obsessed with fake IDs and making out—the sound of adolescent anxieties and pleasures, lightning in a bottle.
