Transcriptions Lyriques

With this album, the Franco-Moldovan pianist plays piano transcriptions of 14 pieces originally written for voice and piano. Shorn of the words, these songs have to communicate in a different way, and Zoubritski’s tender, lyrical style is put to good use. She’s appropriately dramatic in one of the piano works without (sung) words, Liszt’s “Petrarch Sonnet 104,” in which she reveals a big musical personality. But she also shows her experience with singers (she’s an admired vocal coach in France) in such songs as Schubert’s “Wohin?,” Schumann’s “Widmung,” and Poulenc’s “Les Chemins de l’Amour” (in her own arrangement).
