For centuries, music’s rhythms, melodic shapes, and textures have fired the imaginations of choreographers, including Wayne McGregor, one of today’s greatest. This is a collection of classical and electronic works commissioned by McGregor over the past 25 years for his dance productions. It’s an album of intriguing and thrilling contrasts: the gentle ebb and flow of Byrd’s “Miserere Mei,” the primeval intensity of Ben Frost’s “After Death,” and the pounding, industrial beats of Jon Hopkins’ “Vessel” (alongside a brand-new recording of its stunning orchestral version).
