EDITORS’ NOTES

Following up I Asked You a Question from 2016, Israeli pianist Nitai Hershkovits deepens his musical alliance with beatmaker Rejoicer (Yuvi Havkin) on More Than One Thing, the debut from Time Grove, a deeply intriguing electroacoustic project. Crystalline piano chords, electronic beats or live drums, fat synth bass, silken and otherworldly keyboard textures from BEMET (Hod Moshonov), lines and melodies voiced on saxophone, clarinet, and flute by Eyal Talmudi: Even this doesn’t exhaust the rich inventory of sound on offer. Think colorful modal jazz meets glitchy experimental hip-hop, with occasional Middle Eastern inflection and the raw improvisatory ethos and harmonic majesty of early Weather Report.
