Tomorrow Could Be the Day Things Change

Tomorrow Could Be the Day Things Change

As Nova Scotia rap veteran Classified has crossed over into the realms of pop, rock, and country, he’s never lost the connection to his boom-bap roots. His 16th album, Tomorrow Could Be the Day Things Change, is positively steeped in old-school flavor: “Damn Right” sports the heavy-duty groove of a ’90s rap-metal jam, while “Super Nova Scotian” is a Wu-Tang-styled posse cut that rallies an all-star procession of Maritimes rap royalty, including Skratch Bastid and Pat Stay. (And no points for guessing the inspiration behind “Beastie Boy.”) But the Tory Lanez-assisted trap ballad "Cold Love" reaffirms Classified’s flair for au courant collaborations, and on the somber devotional “Powerless,” he turns his eye to current events, weaving a vivid, unflinching narrative about the plight of Indigenous women in Canada.
