Editors’ Notes Can an album be both politically woke and blissful party fun? Jenny Lewis says yes. Nice As F**k, the debut LP from her new band with Erika Forster and Tennessee Thomas, is all loose-limbed lo-fi swagger—many tracks are simply bass guitar, drums, and Lewis’ beguiling vocals. But on songs like “Homerun” (“Left is right/Right is suicide”) and the pleading, synth-kissed “Guns,” the trio aims for a higher consciousness. As Lewis sings on anthemic centerpiece “Higher,” “I’m just trying to keep the dream alive.”
