独演会 'DOKU-EN-KAI' (Deluxe Video Edition)
Eccentric post-rock by way of Japan: toe, for the uninitiated, are math rock veterans, a quartet celebrating over two decades of atypical, angular guitar noodling (not to mention the unmistakable jazzy blitz of drummer Kashikura Takashi) with an 85-minute audio and visual live album of career-spanning favorites, captured at New York City’s famed venue Le Poisson Rouge in the summer of 2019. The release works a miracle, fully capturing their uniquely tactile instrumentation, titanic crescendos, and the ferocity of their enraptured audience—these tracks screech and sweat as the band builds complex rhythms to explode. In the ember are “My Little Wish” and “Because I Hear You,” succinct emo symphonies delivered in five minutes—life-alerting work for fans of their Western contemporaries: Tortoise, American Football, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and their ilk.
