About Jabari Johnson

A session and sideman guitarist as well as solo artist, Jabari Johnson's solo contemporary gospel music merges rock, contemporary R&B, and worship music. He made his solo debut with 2019's Day of Redemption as a member of Bishop T.D. Jakes' church band. A native of Houston, Texas, Jabari Johnson started singing and playing music at the age of three. When he was eight, he and his brother, Nicholas Johnson, formed the vocal quartet the Johnson Brothers, who went on to share billing with the likes of Lee Williams and the Canton Spirituals. Later, as the lead guitarist at The Potter's House in Dallas, he performed not only with the church founder T.D. Jakes but such gospel chart-topping acts as Kirk Franklin, Tori Kelly, and Ricky Dillard, just to name a few. In 2015, Johnson released his first solo single, "You Are Holy." That same year, he played guitar on Kim Burrell's album From a Different Place, among other session work. His own follow-up singles "More of You" (featuring Carvena Jones & Tela) and "You're Good" (featuring Michael Dixon) appeared in 2016, and he recorded with artists including Ricky Dillard and JJ Hairston on their 2017 releases. The next year, his guitar work could be heard on Tori Kelly's gospel number one, Hiding Place, and he co-wrote a track for Cadillac Muzik's album Lac Gospel. Johnson's first solo album, Day of Redemption, saw release in 2019 via Light Records. ~ Marcy Donelson
