The Presets Essentials

The '00s brought a new spin on '80s techno and dance music, and no one harnessed this energy better than two Sydney Conservatorium of Music-trained boys—Julian Hamilton (vocals, keyboards) and Kim Moyes (drums, keyboards)—who joined forces as The Presets. They enlisted Daniel Johns (Silverchair) to produce the seven-track 2003 EP, Blow Up, and gained momentum in 2005 with their first full-length, Beams. But their breakout year was 2007, when they blitzed the Big Day Out, played SXSW, and opened for Daft Punk in Australia. After taking their incredible live show to the European and American festival circuits, the duo turned out 2008's Apocalypso, which collected six ARIAs. Staying busy as producers, Julian and Kim were stalwart forces on the dancefloor with remixes of Kings of Leon and more, returning in full force for 2013's Pacifica.
