Popol Vuh Essentials

German electronic pioneers Popol Vuh drew from ancient culture and spirituality to inform their unique brand of ambient music. Formed in '69 by keyboardist Florian Fricke, the band were among the first to utilise the Moog synthesiser, constructing transcendental electronic soundscapes while also employing an exotic array of instruments to create a union of the earthly and the ethereal. Director Werner Herzog later tapped the group to perform soundtracks for many of his best known films, including Aguirre, The Wrath of God and Fitzcarraldo.
