Emerging from the hardcore punk scene in Cleveland, Mushroomhead eventually evolved into a full-stop heavy metal spectacle. Clad in horror movie masks and costumes, the band fashioned a mix of blues-metal, industrial and hip-hop. Though their songs presaged the trends of the '90s, Mushroomhead was overshadowed by Slipknot, their most obvious peers. Still, they thrived on the underground scene and their annual Halloween show in Cleveland is the stuff of legend. Though they can kick out some incinerating death metal, this playlist shows they are fearless when it comes to breaking metal's rules.
