Inspired by the folk hero Vladimir Vysotsky, a young Mikhail Vorobyov picked up a guitar and began to sing—taking the name Mikhail Krug after winning a songwriting competition in 1987. His songs of romance, the criminal underworld and his hometown Tver live on as his legacy—epitomising Russian chanson with their melancholic accordion and rhythm guitar.
