MercyMe's diverse styles cover both Christian pop and rock. A good deal of their guitar-fuelled tunes build on the earnest alt-rock crunch of Newsboys' “God Is Not a Secret”, while their ballads often possess the same melodic delicacy as Michael W. Smith's “Give It Away”. But the band also love ‘70s pop gems like ELO's “Believe Me Now”, which taught them the ins and outs of lush, hook-laden songcraft.
