Manchester Orchestra's heart-on-sleeve rock balances headbanging aggression with slow-burning elegance. The Atlanta band have done plenty of maturing since frontman Andy Hull wrote his first album as a sulky high schooler in 2004: His wails take on an emo-esque quiver on early tracks like "I Can Barely Breathe", before transforming into throat-shredding roars that barrel through tightly wound guitars on the stormy anthem "Shake It Out" and the Nirvana-like "Pride". Cooling down the fire are introspective ballads that sizzle over a rich bed of synths and symphonic strings ("Simple Math").
