Kyo Essentials

Kyo Essentials

Formed in France in 1997, Kyo are emblematic of the sea change that occurred in the mainstream around the mid-'90s, when brooding alternative rock gave way to shimmering pop. Their music may be infused with post-grunge riffs, electronic textures and foreboding, Radiohead-esque atmospheres, but, thanks to the crystalline voice of lead singer Benoit Poher, the band's unabashed melodicism transforms every song into a sky-bound anthem. After announcing their hiatus in 2005, Kyo resurfaced nine years later with the comeback album L'équilibre, continuing their rousing, accessible alt-rock.
