Grizzly Bear Essentials

Grizzly Bear Essentials

With choirboy croons soaring over haunting baroque pop arrangements, there's both beauty and bleakness in every Grizzly Bear tune. What began as the lo-fi solo project of Brooklyn singer/songwriter Ed Droste evolved into a full-fledged quartet for 2006's Yellow House, which adds lush harmonies and woozy electronic effects to the mix ("Knife"). The band have continued to expand their sound, giving psychedelic tendencies a Beach Boys-esque polish on the sunny, piano-plinking "Two Weeks" and "Yet Again", both of which slowly and gorgeously spiral down a dissonant black hole.
