Sky

About Sky

Montreal-based pop duo Sky formed in 1992 when Antoine Sicotte and James Renald met in college. They collaborated on projects for their music classes and began playing together outside of school. Three years later, they formed their own record label, Phat Royale, and made a demo CD and video. When the video received airplay on MusiquePlus (the French-language branch of MuchMusic), it attracted national attention to Sky's dance-pop and brought the group a deal with EMI. The group's first effort for the label was the 1998 single "Some Kind of Wonderful," a hit that laid the groundwork for 1999's full-length debut Piece of Paradise. The album debuted at number six on Canada's pop charts, making it the highest Soundscan debut for a Canadian artist to that date. The album was released in the U.S. later in the year. ~ Heather Phares
