About MahAvishnu John Mclaughin

One of jazz's most virtuosic guitar soloists, John McLaughlin placed his blazing speed in the service of a searching spiritual passion that has kept his music evolving. Whether shredding on electric or simmering quietly on acoustic, McLaughlin's intensity and versatility have kept his playing vital. His best moments represent some of fusion's greatest recordings; among them are Miles Davis' Bitches Brew and Jack Johnson, and his fusion ensemble the Mahavishnu Orchestra's The Inner Mounting Flame and Birds of Fire. He collaborated with acoustic Indo-jazz fusion ensemble Shakti and issued best-selling outings with guitarists Paco De Lucia and Al Di Meola. Jazz records under his own name have appeared from a variety of labels. They include 1978's Electric Guitarist, 1982's Music Spoken Here, 1995's The Promise, and 2006's Industrial Zen. Since 2008, he's issued a handful of recordings on the independent Abstract Logix including 2008's Floating Point, 2015's Black Light, and 2021's Liberation Time.
