On the second instalment of their Midnight in Sunnyside series, Mellow & Sleazy deliver a selection of eclectic tunes steeped in their bacardi-infused amapiano sound that’s characterised by a heavy use of percussion and the signature dry snares. They team up with some of Pitori’s finest: DJ Maphorisa, ShaunMusiq and Ftears appear on “Aliboshwe,” where swelling guitar licks accompany a message of hope delivered by TmanXpress, who also contributes to the anthemic “Vin Diesel”. The project concludes with “Kwelinye”, in which singer Keynote asserts that the naysayers celebrated too soon, as his prayers haven’t gone unanswered—a fitting end to an album that affirms the production duo’s staying power.
