MC Cheung Tinfu: Support Pride

“Everyone has the right to be bold in their love life,” MC Cheung Tinfu tells Apple Music. “I hope everyone listening to this playlist can gain the bravery and strength to be faithful to their own hearts, and to go out and find love courageously.” The young crooner’s meteoric rise to fame has been propelled by a series of singles that proclaim the sheer power of uninhibited romantic expression. Perhaps the most viscerally unyielding of these is “反對無效” (Overruled), which is also the lead track of this playlist. “I chose those songs because love isn’t about what other people think, and everyone has the right to love freely,” he says. Cheung credits his time in Canada with exposing him to information about LGBTQ+ issues: “The biggest challenge the LGBTQ+ community in Hong Kong faces is a lack of public understanding. People have always been more traditional and conservative in their thinking. Canadians are more open to it, and same-sex marriage has been legalised for a long time.” He continues: “Although there have been a lot more movies and music that delve into the LGBTQ+ world these years, and the public is now more aware of it, there are still a lot of misconceptions. The LGBTQ+ community needs everyone’s support in order to face their various pressures. I hope the public can be more understanding, tolerant and inclusive of the LGBTQ+ community. Meanwhile, I hope everyone can dare to love whoever they like and to cherish and take care of the people around them, regardless of their orientation.”
