Lo Ta-You’s Story of Time: Spring

In his first of four playlists as Apple Music’s guest curator, Lo Ta-You chooses songs that represent new beginnings, departure from the familiar and self-discovery. “We had a longing for the future. Full of passion and adventure, we travelled to the ends of the earth, pursuing our dreams in cities everywhere,” Lo tells Apple Music. “‘Brilliant Days’ was the first song I wrote for a film. I was just a nobody, and I was very thankful the song was chosen,” Lo says about the track that launched his career. “Come to think of it, I had a way with film scores, such as ‘Yes or No’ in Papa, Can You Hear Me Sing?, Red Dust’s eponymous track, ‘Love Song 1990’ and ‘The Way You Are’ for All About Ah Long. Those songs are the first sprouts of my career.” He recognises the same pursuits in the next generation and uses this opportunity to shine a spotlight on many younger artists. “Kumachan has excellent rapping skills and great lyrical depth,” Lo says about one such example. “I had a good time working with him.” There are cuts from EggplantEgg, Sunset Rollercoaster, Trash, Anpu—and many more vibrant, aspiring artists.
