About Collective Soul

Collective Soul took their name from a line in Ayn Rand’s novel The Fountainhead. ∙ Founder Ed Roland, whose father is a Baptist minister, said that the Bible was the only book he read before he turned 18. ∙ The band’s second album—which they consider their debut—spent 76 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart, spawning three Mainstream Rock No. 1 hits and selling over three million copies. ∙ Roland cites Beatles producer George Martin, ELO’s Jeff Lynne, and longtime Elton John collaborator Paul Buckmaster as influences on his orchestrations. ∙ In 2001, Dolly Parton won the Best Female Country Vocal Performance Grammy Award for her cover of the band’s single “Shine.” ∙ Collective Soul collaborated with the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra on the 2006 live album Home, which raised money for local music projects. ∙ In 2009, the band was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame.
