The fact that pioneering Turkish rock band Moğollar are still rolling over half a century since their formation says everything about their substance. They may have gone through the near-inevitable myriad lineup changes over the decades, but their mix of folk, blues and pop feels as potent as ever. The handsomely melodic guitar lines and wistful yearning of their best-known tracks—“Ilgaz” and “Iklıg”, for instance—simply haven’t aged. And they perhaps saw into the future when they chose to name themselves after the Mongol Empire: they’re a modern-day symphony in ambition and longevity.
