The Tampa, Florida-based trio challenged the misogynistic tones of party-friendly hip-hop, serving up ultra-nasty lyrics over atypical beats that blended elements of house, garage, electro, and Miami bass. Originally Yeah Majesty, MCs Shunda K and Shon B recruited R&B/gospel songstress Jwl B to form Yo Majesty in the early 2000s. Collaborating with U.K. production team Hard Feelings, Yo Majesty recorded their debut EP, Kryptonite Pussy, in 2006, which introduced the group's confrontational and experimental hip-hop -- over the top, sex-obsessed rhymes, rowdy vocal deliveries, and high-energy beats -- to the listening public. In 2008, the group released their debut LP, Futuristically Speaking...Never Be Afraid, featuring production from Basement Jaxx, Sunship, Ceri Evans, and DJ Dee Kline.
